Poets, artists and community members gathered in Oklahoma City for Peace on the Mic, an evening that used creativity and shared voices to center peace. The event brought people together at Cheba Hut in Uptown for expression, connection and a community-driven alternative to violence.
Art creates room for honest conversation
Spoken word and music can say what ordinary conversation sometimes cannot. Peace on the Mic created space for local artists to tell their stories, reflect on their experiences and invite neighbors to listen to one another with openness and respect.
Events like this are part of a broader vision for community safety. When residents have welcoming places to gather and express themselves, they build relationships that strengthen belonging. Those relationships are essential to preventing harm and helping communities heal.
Community partners made the night possible
LIVE FREE Oklahoma thanked DJ Kruck, Stop the Violence OKC and Cheba Hut’s Oklahoma City team for helping bring the event to life. Their partnership connected artists, organizers and a local business around a shared commitment to peace.
The strong showing of poets and performers demonstrated the depth of creative talent in Oklahoma City—and the power of giving that talent a platform with purpose. LIVE FREE Oklahoma will continue supporting spaces where art, community and violence prevention meet.
