$67 Million Invested in Communities—Here’s What That Really Means

By Live Free USA

In a year when public investment in care was being reduced, redirected, or cut, something remarkable happened:

Communities fought back—and won.

Through organizing, advocacy, and strategic coalition building, Live Free helped move:

$67+ million into communities for violence prevention, crisis response, and housing

This Is What Impact Looks Like

This isn’t just a number.

It represents:

  • Violence interruption programs funded
  • Families supported through crisis response
  • Housing stability for those most at risk
  • Community-based solutions replacing system failures

And it happened across multiple states:

  • Michigan: $15M+ secured for CVI programs
  • Indiana: $17M for violence intervention and non-police crisis response
  • Illinois: $3M for Community Healing Resource Centers

Why This Is Significant

At the same time governments were cutting over $800M from community safety investments, this work ensured communities were not left behind

This is what organizing does:

  • It shifts resources
  • It protects what matters
  • It ensures funding reaches the people—not just systems

From Advocacy to Allocation

This impact came from real action:

  • Budget advocacy
  • Faith leader mobilization
  • State-level organizing
  • Policy engagement

This is what it means to turn voices into dollars—and dollars into impact.

The Bottom Line

Every dollar moved into community-based safety is a step away from harm and toward healing.
