More than 150 young people chose a positive path at the Hoops for Peace Basketball Camp, a community-centered program presented with Pivot in Oklahoma City. The camp wrapped up with basketball, mentorship and a direct conversation about how everyday decisions can shape a young person’s future.
A court built for connection
Basketball created the setting, but the larger purpose was peace. Young people gathered in a supportive environment where recreation and trusted relationships worked together. The camp gave participants a place to compete, learn and spend time with adults invested in their success.
LIVE FREE Oklahoma Executive Director Jabee Williams spoke with campers about making better decisions and thinking carefully about the impact of their choices. That message reflects the organization’s approach to violence prevention: young people need credible guidance, consistent support and positive opportunities before a crisis occurs.
Choosing something positive
The participation of more than 150 children demonstrated the power of partnerships that meet youth where they are. By combining sports with mentoring and community leadership, Hoops for Peace offered an experience rooted in belonging, accountability and hope.
LIVE FREE Oklahoma is grateful to Pivot and every young person, family member, coach and supporter who helped make the camp possible. Each positive choice contributes to a safer and stronger Oklahoma City.
