Jabee Williams: Artist, Activist, and Leader of Live Free Oklahoma

When you hear the name Jabee Williams, you may think of music, culture, and Oklahoma pride. But behind the microphone and beyond the stage, Jabee is a man on a mission — a mission to save lives, heal communities, and create opportunities where despair once lived.

From the Eastside to the World

Born and raised in Oklahoma City’s Eastside, Jabee’s story is deeply rooted in the community he now serves. Growing up, he saw firsthand the struggles that come with poverty, systemic inequities, and violence. At just 16 years old, he lost his brother to gun violence — an experience that left a permanent mark and ignited his commitment to changing the narrative for others.

Jabee found his voice through hip-hop. As a rapper, he gained national recognition, collaborating with artists like Murs and Chuck D, and sharing stages with legends from Common to De La Soul. His music isn’t just entertainment — it’s testimony. It reflects resilience, faith, and the belief that even through pain, transformation is possible.

More Than Music: A Community Builder

Even as his career grew, Jabee never left his community behind. He has been:

  • A mentor to countless young people, showing them that their dreams are valid.

  • A connector between nonprofits, city leaders, and everyday residents.

  • A voice for justice, using his platform to address issues like housing, education, and racial equity.

His work has been recognized with awards and honors, including being named a Grio Hero for 2024 for his leadership and activism.

Founding Live Free Oklahoma

In 2023, Jabee launched Live Free Oklahoma, the state’s first community-based violence intervention program. This wasn’t just an organizational move — it was personal. Through Live Free, he is building a network of PeaceMakers, training community members to de-escalate conflicts, support survivors of violence, and connect people to jobs, housing, and healing resources.

Jabee believes in prevention over punishment, in healing over harm, and in lifting up those who are too often overlooked. His goal is simple but profound: to see Oklahoma communities thrive, free from the shadow of violence.
